Acrylic Landscape, Silence in the Snow

by Wendy Freakley
(Stoke on Trent)

Snow Scene acrylic landscape painting

Snow Scene acrylic landscape painting

I have always wanted to do oil painting but never had the nerve to do it. I became ill after doing 3 treks in Brazil, Nepal , and South Africa for charity, so after being off work for six months I decided to start to kill the boredom of the winter weather, after watching a show on oil painting, I picked up a brush for the very first time and I have amazed my self thanks to Bob Ross my technique is Bob Ross,it took four hours to paint each one.

Editors note:

Your first piece (photo) has become lost in cyberspace, but this one made it ok. Re-submit the first one again when you have the chance.

I like this piece because it definitely makes me COLD! I mean, it's summer here, and it's nice to get a cool breeze now and again. I can just feel the cold flowing off the background trees across the lake towards me. You can sense the crackled bark of the foreground tree with it's cold spray of wind driven snow. A very nice piece.

The Bob Ross technique (wet-in-wet) has helped millions to "pick up the brush"! I am so happy for you and hoping your illness and job hunting goes well. We have a son in South America right now working a summer program (he is pre-med)and my biggest fear is water borne disease. He's in good hands though, as it is a very smart group he is with.

I use some of these techniques in my color layers within classical oil painting. Some of the similarities include a "wet" prepped canvas, (we use linseed oil to "oil-out" the canvas) prior to beginning a session. Hopefully you will try the classical techniques and show your work here as you already have a great basis to start!

Thanks for sharing your work. Please continue to contribute! And include as much details of how you did it as possible.
