Christmas Warmth, Christmas Paintings

Many of those reading these pages are oil painters who may have studied many paintings over a time. I have an old painting that I cannot identify.

This is a very old painting, the paintwork is damaged and I cannot locate a signature. Even if no one recognized the painting or something similar - it may well be of interest to other artists

The glow of firelight on the child's night dress and the color of the moon light reflected on the back of the dress is mesmerizing. It almost looks satin.

Someone reading may recognize the artist. Have you tried viewing the back. Artist's sometimes personalized the work by signing the back or along the inside edge. If the picture has a dust cover on the back, have your framer remove it so you can peek inside. Then re-install the cover, (usually a heavy paper) that is glued with an acid free glue.
