decorative interior painting

Decorative painting on furniture! Wow, this is so fun to do! What a great way to save money too, buying old beat up furniture, taking it home, cleaning it up, and putting a beautiful decorative design to it!

Shopping the used furniture markets, auctions, flea markets is something I enjoy doing (looking for props in still life painting)!

Here's an example that I did using acrylic paints, some antiquing stain, and varnish!

It's so easy to do! Once the wood has been lightly sanded, a coat (in this case) of blue paint over the whole unit. Then using patterns from a book, trace them onto the furniture. (Yes, I used a pattern from a book!)

Using small containers of acrylic furniture paint, the patterns were filled in.

After drying, using a rag and rubbing the antiquing stain over the unit, making it thicker in the corners and areas near molding and decorative trim, I artificially aged the unit. Once this was dry, a simple coat of mat varnish protects the painting!
