How do I remove oil paint overspray from an unvarnished oil painting?

I had a completed, unvarnished painting leaning against the wall in my studio. I was working on my next painting and discovered, several days later, white paint specs on the finished piece

My knowledge in this area is nill. My suggestion is if you live near a metropolitan museum, they may have someone on staff that is familiar with restoration and chemicals used in that function. There may be something that will soften the paint and allow careful removal with a cotton q-tip without disturbing the underlying paint. It is tedious work. Some one here may be able to add their opinions also! Good luck on it, and come back to post what you finally do.
