Peonie Study

Signed Peonie Painting Close up of Petals Close up of Leaves and Petals Close up of Leaves and Petals

Thank you Delmus for helping to make it possible for me to develop this style of painting. I found your e-book invaluable as a reference tool and cannot thank you enough for sharing all your knowledge so generously.

I used Norma professional oil paints as well as the medium you described in your e-book. I used Liquin in the latter stages of the painting. As this is my first proper painting using this technique I was a little slow and hope to improve my output. I learned a lot through the painting process.

P.S.

Oops, I had forgotten to sign my work when I took the first series of photos. I have included some close up photos as well as one of the painting signed. The work is based on a photo I took while my Hubby and I were in Valsolda, Italy, last year. I have taken many photographs of this painting, right from the initial ink drawing, through the Umber Layer, Grey Layer and initial laying in of colour. Then I took progressive photos as I built up the colour layers. I think that working with colour and getting it right was the most challenging aspect of the work.

Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Your e-book gave me the guidelines to follow and your expertise has given me the confidence to use this rewarding technique.

Anja Corbett.

Beautiful
by: Ellen

I think you have done a wonderful job. I would love to learn to do closeups of flowers such as you have done. Just can't say enough about how beautiful this painting is.

Thank you Kat for your Comments regarding my work. It's a shame that I couldn't supply a higher resolution photo as some if the detail is lost. However the colour match is pretty much true. Some of the richness has been, "lost in translation", so to speak. I did no editing on the photo. Some of my friends are abstract painters, so it is wonderful to share my work with others who appreciate, "realist" work. It is where my heart is.

Wonderful!
by: Anonymous

I agree with Delmus: this is a beautiful painting. I really appreciate your choice of colors in the leaves keeping it bright and vibrant. I even magnified my computer screen to 400% to really appreciate the detail ans try and evaluate your brush stroke and color application technique. The 'tangle' detail at the 5 o'clock position right behind the petals is beyond fabulous.

I want to ask if you did any post=processing on the photographs (adjusted the light or shadow levels or anything). I know cameras sometimes have a hard time getting colors right. Even if you did, it's not a bad thing. It doesn't change the obvious talent behind the work.

And I agree with you, Anja, that Delus's site is a wonderful source of inspiration. Thank you for sharing with us less worthy 'hobbyists' the fruit of your special collaboration.

And now to mis-quote from the esteemed Dickens, "Please, sir (AND madam), may I have some more?"

Warm regards,

Kat (Raleigh, NC USA)

Peonie oil painting
by: Delmus

Anja! Thank you so much for re-submitting with the additional photo's. I can't tell you the goose bumps I got when I looked really close at this wonderful painting, and to realize it was hand made! Wow! what a great example for people to see what this technique can do for folks.

I really can't say enough about this work. You have grasped the full value range in going from the darkest dark behind the foliage, to the lightest light in the highlights on the petals. This is something that brings the level of work into the professional arena.

You've given the viewer a whole range of interest within the leaves by showing the front, back, mature and young leaflets. Also a few berries.

A fully matured blossom with it's intricate pattern that is broken up by a few petals hiding behind a leaf. (upper part of picture) And it too having a full color and value range of the deep pinks inside the blossom center to the highlights on the petals edges.

Wonderful work!

It has made my weekend!
