Portrait of a Barn Owl

by Yvette Gaudreau
(Cape Cod, Ma.)

Portrait of a Barn Owl

Portrait of a Barn Owl

Portrait of a Barn owl is painted in Acrylics on a 2.5 x 3.5 Aceo 140 lb watercolor paper. I began this painting using my Burnt Umber, finding all of my dark and lights. I then switch to my Burnt Sienna painting in more of my lighter and darker tones. I then added my colors. I find that this is easier to accomplish my dark an light tones. It also gives my paintings a glow through the acrylic paints. This is the beginning of the 7 layer stage that I learned here. It can also be done in acrylics.

I do hope you enjoy him. I'm very happy with my outcome.

Thank you everyone for your positive comments on my owl. He was fun to paint with all of the shadows on his face.
