Mule Deer Fawn, Wildlife Oil Painting

Mule Deer Fawn

Here is my first attempt at an animal - it was so much fun!! Now, I'm hooked on trying all kinds of animals! This is oil on 11x14 canvas board. Primed the board with black acrylic and then used black oil over that. Seemed to dry faster than normal and the texture of the board was wonderful to paint on. I used a Conti pencil to sketch in the deer and then went from there. What a blast to paint!

I feel like I can just reach out and stroke the fur. Was this a night photograph as reference? Beautiful painting!
