How to keep paintings wet for quite a long period of time so for example days

I do paintings that are quite involved and take quite a long time
But have a problem keeping the paint surface looking blended and unified as if it was completed while the painting was wet .

Mark Carter has some really nice demos and I think he uses Oil of Clove to extend the time it takes to allow the oil paint to dry.
