Oil Portrait "The Boy with the Pink Hair"

by Peggy

the boy with the pink hair

the boy with the pink hair

This 17 year old is a honor student in the 12th grade. He wants to be a doctor and he has a wonderful funny sense of humor, says he thought pink hair would be interesting and fun, and so it has been.... lol. He has very deep feelings and I am doing a second painting of him loving a baby goat. This is my great grandsons best friend so we get to see alot of him.

Hi Peggy!

What a great work of art! And thanks for including the story behind it! The young man must have seen that movie called "Patch Adams" about a very talented doctor and his use of humor to help his patients. It is a true story and is a great movie of his struggles in Med School.

Thanks also for the picture of you working the Mall! Isn't that a great way to paint! Lots of exposure and not having to worry about rain or mosquitoes!

Good to hear from you too!

best wishes,
Delmus

My Girls

by Peggy
(Coos Bay Oregon)

Portraits

Portraits

This painting was done in 1968....It was my first try at painting, had no training, read any books at that time. I just took the pictures of the girls and tried to match the colors from the pictures in the painting......

The girls were at that time 10 and 12. Now they are both in their 50's,and both grand mothers. The oldest is a registered Nurse here in our local Hospital, the youngest is a fireman...opps.. fire person lol.

Wrinkles was painted on a sweatshirt and the children looking in the barrel were painted in the early 80's while I was in Oklahoma..

These paintings are special. You are really talented. I really enjoyed looking at them and it is great to have a site like this for people all over to be able to share their art. I plan on trying to paint my grand daughter. I have never done this before. Wish me well.

The Lost Lamb

by Peggy
(Coos Bay Oregon)

Sheppard guarding the lost lamb

Sheppard guarding the lost lamb

My grand mother has a print of this painting , and when I stayed at her house I loved looking at it, Her youngest son had a little lamb and a collie dog when he was 3 years old, I saw many pictures of him holding his lamb and the dog sitting next to them. The picture is a bit sad and these words came to me after I finished the painting

the lonely howl fills the cold stormy night
the watcher cries out over its little lambs plight
lost and alone, the lamb cares no more
another shepherd is standing ready at heavens door

this little lamb so pure and sweet
soon will be warm and rest at the masters feet
sometimes in life it just doesn't seem fair
when things are too tough, heavens door is always there

there is light and warmth, love lives there too
and a tiny lost lamb snuggles up to you
so don't cry, rejoice, be happy, feel free
we’ll all be together, the shepherd, the lost lamb and me

Finally found it!
by: Anonymous

I finally found the picture! I had a print of this years ago, I think it was on a greeting card or something. Anyway, I loved to look at it and study it and wonder what it was supposed to represent. The ewe was lying a little way in the distance with birds overhead(buzzrds or eagle?). In my mind, the dog was calling for help so the orphaned lamb wouldn't perish. I imagined the print to be a depiction of God's mercy - the sheepdog representing a guardian angel. I lost my copy in a house fire and have wanted so much to replace it.

The Lost Lamb
by: Nanrym

The picture of the collie and the lamb were featured on a calendar kept by my grandmother, born in 1867, died 1945. She loved the picture, apparently related it to the parable from the Bible of the lost sheep/lamb. Our vet has an enlarged copy of the print on the wall in his clinic, he calls it "Found". I have been told that the original was done by a Scots artist but I have not yet been able to verify that.

My Lost Lamb Picture Found
by: Rhea

I remember also of this picture hanging up in my grandmother's house. I loved looking at that picture for hours for as far back as I can remember. Right before my grandmother died, she asked if I would like that picture. Of course I did. I was going thru an ugly divorce and went to go get my things and my ex had sold it, which I found out later it was for drugs. I cried often because I didn't think I would ever find this picture again, and how many memories it brought back of my childhood. I was totally heart broken. Several years later, I had told my current husband about this picture and how much it meant to me. We were going thru an antique store and hanging up on the wall was the exact same picture. My husband said we didn't have enough to buy it at that time and once again I was totally heartbroken. Little did I know, my husband asked them to hold it for him and he went back and bought it and had it put into a beautiful frame that would keep it from being damaged. I guess he paid more for the frame than he did for the picture because he knew how much it meant to me. Now I can hand it down to my kids and hopefully they will hand it down for generation to generation. My grandson who is 5 now, has always looked at that picture the same way I did. I tell him the story that I was told about the lost sheep and he asks me to tell him that story every time he comes over. Which I never say no. :) I am so glad I got the picture back in my family, it may not be the exact same one, but for what my husband did, it has just as much meaning as before.
Thank you for letting me share!
Rhea

The Lost Lamb

when I was young, my mother found a placemat with a picture, if not this, then very much like it. She had it framed for me. Somewhere along the way, it was lost. I have been looking for this picture for years - this is the closest I've come to it - any way to get one?

Exciting Find
by: Anonymous

Thirty years ago I bought The Lost Lamb at an estate sale of my Dad's second cousin. My husband was with me at the sale and he has been deceased twenty years this coming May. When I was looking for information on the painting, I kept looking for The Shepard. I have a beautiful print in a beautiful frame hanging in my living room and surley would like some info on it. Artist, year it was first painted.Anything that would lead me to the age of the original painting. Would welcome email to Legacynumber2@inbox.com or letter to Evelyn Hockenberry at 176 Double Road, Renfrew, Pa. 16053. I cannot see an artist signature on the picture I have. Was very excited to find the picture at easy oil painting teccniques. Evelyn

Firemen Tribute paintings

by Peggy
(Coos Bay Oregon)

Burning building

Burning building

Night burn was a practice burn where the house was condemned and scheduled to be burned, My youngest daughter is a fireman and so I was aware of the night burn which was only a few blocks from my house. My daughter offered to suit me up and take me on a walk through inside the burning house, I quietly declined....

The Charleston fire dept burning was scheduled to get ready for a new building,
The skating rink was a very old building which had been sold to be torn down, instead a practice burn was done, there were firemen from 7 different areas on that burn, it was a large building taking all day to burn it. I took a lot of pictures of it.

The Farwest automotive was a real emergency fire, we were just a few blocks away when we saw the fire engines going by.... This was a big , fire out of control very dangerous with things inside the building exploding and the building right down town was very close to other buildings. It turned out to also be a very sad fire as we lost 3 firemen...

These paintings were taken from photos that we took. done this year. Fire as I found out is not easy to paint, it is a live , moving breathing thing, often full of unexpected events. The color of the flames can be many colors depending what is burning and the heat involved. I painted ten paintings and donated them to the fire dept as part of the memorial for those fallen.

Quiet Splendor

by Peggy
(Coos Bay Oregon)

Mountains Landscape painting,

Mountains Landscape painting, "Quiet Splendor"

This painting was also done while I was in Oklahoma, in 1984 my husband passed away from Cancer, I stayed in Oklahoma until 1989 when My daughter finished her nursing
school and we all moved back home to Coos Bay.....
This painting was my first try at painting snow...it is a favorite of mine and hangs in my daughters living room now.
QUIET SPLENDOR

a place of beauty in the quiet of the day
a place of peace where natures creatures play
the warm sun glows on the mountain snow
the reflection in the ripples of the lake below

the whisper of the trees from the soft blowing wind
trees heavy with snow creaking as they bend
a place to go to experience heavens delight
and to sleep in the quiet splendor of a star lit night

peaceful and free your soul is set free
beauty all around you in all that you see
quiet splendor a blessing from above
this heavenly place filled with beauty and love

Sculpter class,

Sculpter head of Greek Methology Figure

Sculpter head of Greek Methology Figure

I wanted to learn sculpture so took a class in collage in 1977, completed this green man , then my mother passed away and I moved, everything was different after that so I just painted when I could....

The roses , the drawing of my daughter and the Indian were done that year. There was very little art completed for along time after that....then retiring last year I am painting as much as possible...a little late start but I plan on being around a while and paint, paint, paint.......

The Year in retrospect, oil paintings by Peggy

by Peggy
(Coos Bay Oregon)

Empire Lake

Empire Lake

My favorite stump on Empire lake, it has quite a few old stumps here and there, this one I really liked.....never dreaming it would be so hard to paint.....lol
But finally got it done and it hangs in our living room.

The portraits were interesting and a bit different than I have done before.

Mike is a nurse at our local hospital, I wanted to try no hair but only on the face, I struggled with the beard, he has it trimmed his way..... he is a jolly man and has the painting in his home.

Sheena is my great grand daughter. Age 11 now but I always liked this picture I took of her so I painted it for her grandmother.

Trisha is my grand daughter, her son at that time was six weeks old, and we tried the Madonna look. Her mother has the painting in her home.

I try to paint at least five days a week now, and always learning new things and trying new ideas.

These paintings were done in the early 80's when I was still in Oklahoma...
Bugs and daisy were painted on sweat shirts, that was very popular back then, I still have a couple that I painted for myself.....
the waterfall was also painted during that time period...
